Highlights

  • The First Home Upset: ASU toppled #18 Air Force 5-2 in front of a home crowd at Gila River Arena. It was the program's first-ever victory over a ranked NCAA Division I opponent at home.

  • The Giant Killers: On January 28, 2017, ASU traveled to face #17 Quinnipiac (the previous year's Frozen Four runner-up) and walked away with a 4-2 win.

  • Shutting Down the Top 10: The team earned a gritty 2-2 tie (and subsequent shootout win) against #10 Ohio State, followed by another 2-2 tie and double-overtime victory against #9 Western Michigan to close out the season.

  • Joey Daccord: In his freshman year, the future NHLer showed why he was a high-profile recruit. He set a program record at the time with 53 saves in the win over Quinnipiac and topped it with 54 saves in the tie against Western Michigan.

  • Anthony Croston: recorded the program's first hat trick of the season—scoring all three goals within the first 14 minutes against Southern New Hampshire.

  • The 8-8 Thriller: In the Desert Hockey Classic, ASU played to a wild 8-8 tie against Brown. It remains one of the highest-scoring games in program history.

  • Independent Life: ASU played as an Independent this season, meaning they had to travel across the country to find games, eventually logging over 20,000 miles in travel.
